1-on-1 with Aspen Dental – Meet Cathy
We’re about half-way through our 1-on-1 profiles for our hygiene team! Yes, it’s a very big team. We’ve enjoyed putting this series together and we hope that you’ve enjoyed taking a more profound look into the backgrounds, styles and personalities of our hygienists. But enough of that, let’s move on to our next hygienist, Cathy. Cathy will have been with the Aspen Dental team for 8 years in August! Her inviting spirit and patient-centered approach to dentistry has made her a valuable asset to our team and to our family of patients. Here’s how she answered some of my questions:
Q: Cathy! I’m going to jump right into it. Tell me how you decided to pursue a career in dental hygiene? Did you always know you wanted to be a hygienist?
A: I’ve always loved smiles, making people smile and encouraging people to feel good about their smiles. Being able to help people obtain their optimal oral health and their most vibrant smile is what drove me to become a hygienist.
Q: So you knew early on that you wanted to be a hygienist. How did you get your start?
A: I graduated from Hygiene school at Marquette University in Wisconsin. I was part of an amazing 4 year program where I was able to get my Bachelor’s degree as well. I really felt like my hands-on training and education properly prepared me, both clinically and mentally, for becoming a full-time dental hygienist.
Q: So, what motivates you at work? What do you take pride in at work?
A: I love to educate people on ways they can easily tweak their homecare techniques. Many times, these patients come back at their next routine cleaning appointment and these tips have produced huge improvements in their overall dental health. I really enjoy communicating with our patients and my hope is to have a positive impact on their oral health for years to come.
Q: That’s great! You’ve been with Aspen Dental for 8 years. Why have you stuck around for so long? What makes Aspen Dental different than all the other Denver dental offices out there?
A: Yes, it’ll be 8 years this August. Crazy! But I love that we have created a culture here where continuing education is crucial in staying up to date with the most effective practices and technologies. I also love the team atmosphere here at our practice. Teamwork is key and we’re lucky to have that here.
Q: We certainly do. And it’s important to have a life outside of the office as well. What do you like to do in your free time? Any hobbies?
A: Well, I have 2 boys, a 5-year old and a 3 year old, and we love to be outside together, whether we’re going hiking, biking, checking out the Denver Zoo, or just enjoying the fun that Colorado has to offer. I also picked snowboarding back up this winter and crushed it!
